Powell Gardens purchased the former Colonial Gardens and KAT Wholesale in 2026. Today, Powell Gardens Colonial Farms begins a new chapter as a key extension of the Powell Gardens family in Blue Springs, Missouri, bringing the Gardens’ mission of education, conservation, and community engagement to a second location. As part of Powell Gardens, Colonial Farms expands opportunities for visitors to connect with nature, explore sustainable agriculture, and experience the beauty and bounty of the land.

Colonial Farms allows Powell Gardens to broaden its reach and impact, offering new ways for people of all ages to engage with the natural world. From hands-on learning opportunities to community events and regenerative agriculture initiatives, this site continues Powell Gardens’ commitment to inspiring curiosity, stewardship, and connection to the environment.
Visitors at Colonial Farms enjoy programs, workshops, and seasonal experiences rooted in Powell Gardens’ values of education, sustainability, and family-friendly engagement. By connecting our two locations, we provide more access to nature, more opportunities to learn, and more ways to be part of a thriving community of gardeners, learners, and nature enthusiasts.

Why was Powell Gardens Colonial Farms the right fit for Powell Gardens, and how does this acquisition support Powell Gardens’ long-term mission?
Powell Gardens Colonial Farms is a natural extension of Powell Gardens’ mission to cultivate meaningful connections between people and plants. Our shared values rooted in horticulture, stewardship, and lifelong learning make this partnership both thoughtful and strategic.
This acquisition strengthens Powell Gardens’ long-term vision by expanding our ability to serve the region in new and dynamic ways. It enhances our educational outreach to students and the public, creates more opportunities for hands-on learning and seasonal experiences, and deepens our role as a leader in horticulture, regenerative agriculture and community enrichment.
By extending our mission beyond our primary campus, we are planting seeds for sustainable growth and an even more vibrant future for our garden community.
Will this impact funding, resources, or programming at the main gardens?
No. Powell Gardens Colonial Farms will serve as an extension of Powell Gardens and will operate under Powell Gardens’ 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. This expansion is designed to strengthen our organization, not divert from our core mission or programming at the main gardens.
In fact, this next chapter opens the door to new funding opportunities, partnerships, and revenue streams that will support both sites. It also creates space for expanded programming, fresh educational initiatives, and innovative experiences that complement and enhance what our guests and members already love.
Our commitment to the beauty, stewardship, and growth of Powell Gardens remains strong. Together, both locations will flourish under one shared mission and vision for the future.
Will Powell Gardens Colonial Farms honor my gift card purchased before the buyout?
Yes. As part of this transition, Powell Gardens made the intentional decision to honor all existing Powell Gardens Colonial Farms gift cards. We recognize that gift cards represent more than a purchase. They’re gestures of generosity, shared experiences, and meaningful connections.
It was important to us to honor what those gifts stand for and to welcome guests back to enjoy the gardens, events, and experiences they were given. We sincerely hope this decision not only brings valued customers back, but also helps continue the sense of community and loyalty that has always made Powell Gardens Colonial Farms such a special place.
Will Colonial Farms still have music on Wednesdays?
Yes. The Music in the Garden series will be returning to the Powell Gardens Colonial Farms location. We’re excited to share that it kicks off on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, and will continue every Wednesday from 6–8 p.m. through the end of October.
We look forward to welcoming you back for another wonderful season of music and community.
